My First Style Influence .... A Style Tribute to My Mother

~~~ Today is my Mother's heavenly birthday
so I am republishing one of my
very first blog posts
from 11 years ago
with some new notes at the end ~~~
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

My mother ......was definitely the one who most influenced me in my love of all things stylish.

Throughout her life, no matter the year, she always was stylish ....

And oh so 'put together'

It is from my mother I developed the love of all things ' accessories'

It is from my mother I developed my love of clothes...

The love of all the 'pieces' that make up an 'outfit'.

The love of all things accessorized.

My love of dressing for occasions.

From my mother I learned to dress not only myself......

but also...... to dress my family.

From my mother I learned to show my family love, by dressing them well.

Happy Birthday
Mother!
Thank you so much for all the style and love you have given me!
I love you!

My favorite part of this post ....

I did it 11 years ago.
It was one of my very first.
She was alive to read it.

So make that call.
Make sure your people
know you love them.

I still miss my Mother
probably more than I thought I would
four years later.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Mother!
I love you
and
even more
appreciate all you did!

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life

Vintage Brooch Cuff DIY

Today I am sharing my latest DIY
Vintage Brooch Cuffs!
It's a simple project
that can have a large style impact
and
give new life to some treasured pieces!

I have been collecting
Vintage Brooches for years now.
I have found many at flea markets,
some have been treasured gifts
and
even some I have made from Christmas ornaments!

I have used many in some fantastic
Signature Statement
Vintage Brooch Necklaces
I have a DIY
Here

But this year seeing all of the cuffs  out right now
gave me a new idea to give some of these
beautiful Vintage pieces new life!

I have used them singularly
for fantastic
Vintage Boho Cuffs!

I am just loving the mix of the Boho leather influence
with the vintage pieces!
Making these cuffs a style statement piece
for any years to come!

And even better
this is a quick DIY once you have your supplies sourced!

I started with a brass cuff base.
You can find these online from jewelry finding suppliers
or simply repurpose any cuff you have on hand
or
find one in an inexpensive accessory store.

I cut leather strips from a thrift store skirt.
You could also cut strips from a leather chammy
that you can find in car cleaning supply departments.
I have gotten some at even Target in the past.
Or there is always the fabric store or leather supplier.

I simply cut one inch strips to wrap around the cuff base.
Leather is fabulous not only for the aesthetic and texture
but also since the edges won't fray!

Before I started wrapping the cuff
I cut two small rectangles
to finish off the side edges of the cuff.
The dimensions of these pieces
will depend on the size of your chosen cuff.

Simply wrap the sides of the cuff
to create a clean edge
folding the extra on the cuff inside.

Once the sides were covered
I simply wrapped the cuff with the leather strips
hot gluing as I went. I wanted an imperfect boho feel
so I wasn't too worried about the spacing
but doing a tidy job with the glue gun is really important!

Any  of the ends were finished off inside the cuff
keeping the exterior of the cuff the focal point and finished.

The next step is an important one.

Securing the Brooch to the cuff.

Once you have your chosen piece
you need to secure it tightly to your leather cuff.

I hate to impact the backs of some of my better brooches
so I try not to cut off the pin
and
just work around the pin back.

If you are using a brooch
you are comfortable removing the pin back
it will make the securing much easier.
I find a good pair of clippers will remove the pin back easily.

Now I take some 24 gauge wire
and
almost sew around the piece
front to back
in an attempt to get a tight centered point
with the wire.
A secure center point with the wire
is what is going to allow you to secure it to the cuff.

This is the only somewhat tricky part of the project
as each Brooch is entirely different.
I think of the wire as thread and sew around the piece
back to front
in the most invisible way possible
all the time woking towards a center point to end up.

It is best to get to a center point with two doubled wires
and
the take the two in separate directions
once a secure center point is obtained
this is how you will 'tie' the Brooch to the cuff.

Find the center of the cuff
and
simply tie the Brooch to the cuff on the back
twisting the wire
to get a tight, secure Brooch placement.
Once this step is complete
simply twist the two ends together
and
press  the wires firmly flat on the back of the cuff.

The final finishing step is to take one more strip of leather
to cover the exposed wire
gluing it  in the front
under the brooch
and
then covering inside the cuff with the same strip.

Make sure you finish your cuff
by removing any stray glue hairs.

That's it!
You know have a one of a kind
Vintage Brooch Cuff!
Sure to be a Style Statement piece for years to come!

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life

Transformative Power of Accessories … A Panama Hats … 8 ways

Continuing my
Transformative Power of Accessories
series
today it's all about one of most go to pieces
my
Panama Hat.

Panama hats have been a favorite of mine for years.
But never have I loved one as much as I do
my current
Montecristi Panama
that  I got on my
to Napa
in Yontsville.

This version is more of an investment
than some of the lesser quality versions
but this one is worth every cent!

You can even order  yours online
and
the best part
get one in your perfect size!

I wear mine so many different ways!

In a traditional manner
with nautical stripes and a maxi
for a sunset picnic.

I love juxtaposing it with my silk Chines jacket
for a day in
LA's Art District ...

or to a trip to the flea market
basket in hand
for ready for a  fabulous treasure hunt.

Another twist on the juxtopositioning
with my blaze red kimono
from LA's Little Tokyo
on a trip to La's Silverlake District.

A Panama always pairs with denim.

A Panama even pairs perfectly
with my
Palm Spring brights!

Nothing easier than pairing a Panama
with neutral
for some quick polish running errands!
Better yet
a quick alternative to doing your hair!

It seems I am always choosing my Panama
for travel
be it by plane, boat
or even our Airstream trips up the coast!

but I think my favorite pairing
was the perfect juxtaposition
of Panama, sweatshirt
and
ball skirt!

I think of any hat I own
a Panama
is the most perfect classic piece
to finish off so many different looks!

Have you given a Panama a try?
If so
what's your favorite way to wear one?

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy

A look back at Tamera Beardsley Design ...

This year I am working on some new accessory collections
and today
I have  pulled out  some of my favorite
Tamera Beardsley Design archived editorials
the photos shown range from WWD, Italian Moda, and Cosmo to name just a few
of the publications that shot my jewelry.
Those of you who follow my blog
know that before I decided to raise my children full time
I had a successful fashion accessories business.
Now that my children are grown
I am in the process of
reestablishing myself in the fashion accessories market.

I have books of sketches of new designs
and
now  have decided to take a look back at some of my favorite archived editorials
and
 now vintage  pieces
to see which techniques might make the cut for
my newest collections.

Right now I am absolutely loving
my encrusted pearls again.
and
I have some new incarnations in the works.
The shot above is one of my favorite shots of my encrusted pearl  cuff and  heart earrings.
It was shot in Beverly Hills for Italian Moda.
I have pulled up a few more of my favorites editorial shots to share.

I am once again loving encrusted business card cases
and I am working on some new phone cases with this same treatment.

This is one of my all time favorite shots of
Tamera Beardsley Design
It captures the
exuberance, drama and Southern California roots
of my line
ironically … it was shot for Italian Moda
and it still makes my heart sing!

Now it's back to the studio I go …
thank you for following along on this quick look back
and
 most importantly
thank  you for following along
as I make my way back
into the exciting and passionate
world of accessories!

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life.
