San Diego Birthday Celebration at the Lafayette Hotel

We headed down to San Diego last week to the
to celebrate our gorgeous girl turning 32!

The Lafayette Hotel
is the latest venture of
A private 'culinary and social company'
with the goal ...

"to contribute to the dynamic and culture of the city,
elevate communication and cultivate memorable experience"

And boy do they do it well!

Our first stop for the evening was
to order a cocktail to enjoy outside by the pool.
My daughter had warned us before hand to bring our patience
because the ordering there even when it's not busy is no quick feat!
She was quite right
but their expertly crafted cocktails
and
even more important to me
the rich visuals everywhere made it all worthwhile.

We found the perfect photo chair for our celebration!

As someone who drinks chardonney almost exclusively
I was shocked my first visit to the property to find not a drop at any of their multitude of dining choices!
This time back
I settled into taking a cocktail reccomendation from my girl
of a French 75
And I was so glad I did.
I ended up quite delighted to be nudged out of my usual.

For our dinner reservations we headed down the hall to

The restaurant has cuisine inspired from
Oaxaca Mexico with moles being a specialty
with Antojitos make up much of the menu.

Quixote
is built from a deconstructed church from Mexico
down to the amazing cobblestone floor
as well as the stunning stained glass windows.

My favorite part is the countless dripping candles everywhere
from the individual tables
to huge candelabras
all deep with wax.
It made me want to come home and pull out all of my candlelabras
and enjoy the dripping build up!
What a fabulous way to remember memorable times!

Quixote is also a Mezcaleria
with even a special room for tasting.
If this room is your fancy it can even be requested for dining.

The Lafayette Hotel
also has
and
which includes 2 bowling lanes and pool tables
all done in the most elegant of styles!

The Lafayette Hotel's latest immersive space just opened
Lou Lou's Jungle Room
which is a live music and supper club
I know I will be adding it to my San Diego list
of places I can't wait to visit!

Thanks so much for stopping by my friends!
I always appreciate your visit here!

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life

Updated Holidays

We traveled to
 San Diego
for
Thanksgiving

Truth be told I was pretty much dreading Thanksgiving this year.
With both my parents gone
a son who continues to be estranged from the entire family
another unable to travel home
(for the wonderful reason of a brand new baby due in January!)
the Thanksgiving  holiday seemed like a lot to
'get through'.

Holidays for me always feel
like a microscopic look at a time in life.

But
I am a firm believer in
Finding All The Good
to be found In Life!!

And there is Always so much!!

So my daughter and I
decided to do Thanksgiving
completely different this year!

Ellis came up with doing a 5K
through

We have never been 'those 5K holiday people'
but I definitely am now!

Jeff and I got up at 4:30 in the morning
to get there in time.
We are early risers always
so the sunrise drive down to San Diego
was a beautiful treat!

It was a gorgeous course through the iconic
 and beautiful neighborhoods!

It was a wonderful opportunity for
Jeff and I to spend
quality time with
Ellis and her husband Elliot!
Their beloved dog Aspen was even able to join us
for the morning adventure!

I will definitely be voting for
adding a 5K to our
Updated Holiday Traditions!

After the 5K
we had an early check in at
one of our San Diego favorites.

Built in 1924
it recently been
"Reborn for the Modern traveller".

It has the perfect balance of historic nostalgia
and
modern design and convenience!

Our room had a beautiful view right down Broadway
to the harbor!

Every time I'm in San Diego

I fall more and more in Love with the city!

I talk a lot about packing here
because it still  sometimes seems elusive sometimes
to get it right!

I pulled my accessories wonderfully
which ended up to be a great thing ....
since my wardrobe was a bit lacking!

Can you believe
I even forgot my hats ...
other than my hat for the 5K!!

Luckily Trinny London makes
packing makeup easy!

In my packing defense
our decision to spend the night in San Diego
was last minute
But all the more reason to have a
Better Core Fall Wardrobe
which I do
unless
it's 85 degrees.
I did pack one color palette which was great
just nothing that made my heart excited.

But the good news to all of the packing situation
I didn't let it get me down!
And I'm excited to make improvements!

I am still striving to be a no stress packer
can that even happen?

Or is it really just urban legend?

Jeff and I were  excited to spend time
with these people!

Ellis and Elliot have recently moved into a new home
and
their excitement to decorate
was truly infectious!

For me seeing them so  happily together
decorating their first house
was truly
a life moment
and had

 my Momma heart
swelling with happiness and pride!

I was truly honored to share the moments!

My darling daughter is such a wonderful hostess!
She turned decorating into a festive party!

I got to do the centerpiece for Thanksgiving
and bought some new pieces
as House Warming gifts.

These beauties are from
Crate and Barrel
West Elm and Target.

I went with non traditional colors
that would transition after Thanksgiving
because in our family
Christmas Season starts
as soon as the Thanksgiving dishes are done!

Another change we made for
Thanksgiving
this year
we ordered our dinner out!

It was a wonderful idea
as it made the day really feel like
a Holiday!
And afforded us so much more time to do others things!

Our vegetarian feast was delicious!

Our updated Holiday ended up to be such
a heart warming Thanksgiving!

This year we were able to pass
Thanksgiving Hosting reins
onto our wonderful kids!
And boy did they show up for the opportunity!

Thank you ever so much
Ellis and Elliot
for such beautiful
Thanksgiving Memories!

Here's to embracing
Updated Holidays
and
always finding
all the Beauty there is to be found
In Life!

As always my friends

I wish you Love and Joy

as you

InterContinental San Diego

We frequent San Diego often
because our darling daughter live there with her husband
so we are pretty familiar
with some of the best hotels.

One of our favorites is

It's located in  Downtown San Diego
with rooms with  fabulous views of the Water Front and Harbor.

This visit was just for the night
so we chose one of the smaller, affordable rooms.

I was still impressed with the floor to ceiling views
with a chaise that made it so easy to take in the panoramic sights.

Th e larger corner rooms at the
have fantastic views of the Harbor!

One of my favorite s of the
is their Club upgrade

It has a comfortable lounge with stellar
harbor views

It's always stocked for a quick coffee to go
and
wine and beer at the ready for a sunset viewing.

The view from the Club Terrace

                                                                                       Stunning sunsets!

Morning breaking over the city.

We were in San Diego recently for
Mother's Day!

Our dearest daughter Ellis is
Director Of Operations and Events at

They hosted a Spring Tea for Mother's Day!
It made for an exceptional time to be sure!

Everything was as delicious as it was beautiful!

 is California's first

Lyric at Park 12 - San Diego California

Our newest hotel find in San Diego is the brand new

But this is a new type of hotel
think a mix between
aa Airbnb and a conventional hotel.

It's a newly emerging category in
the hospitality market
called

are in 11 cities in the US

The company
is an AirBnB backed startup.

They feature'Creative Suites ... for the Creative traveller'

with almost 3 times the space of a conventional hotel room.

Jeff and I have never even stayed at an AirBnB
because I don't like the idea of staying
other peoples personal spaces ...

But this cross over sounded intriguing
since it is definitely just
short term apartment renting
not someone's home.

Even with booking we knew we would be in for a different
for us
type of experience.

Communications start online.
Once our application was accepted
there was a number to call with our questions.

There is no front lobby or reception at
the San Diego Lyric.

The day before our stay we were
emailed the code to get into the building.

The building had no outside signage
so it began to feel a bit like a scavenger hunt
looking for the appropriate place to check in.
Fortunately a flip board sign
pointed the way
to the kiosk
to enter our code.

I was definitely feeling out of my
travel comfort zone
wondering
if indeed
we would be able to successfully navigate
what was beginning to feel like a
milennial maze.

Our code worked.
The door opened
and we were greeted by a lovely woman
manning a stand up desk.

She gave us what at the time began to feel
like a mind numbing amount of directions
into the parking garage, elevators
keyless entry to the room
what to do once we got into the room
to turn everything on ...

So we headed into phase two
of finding our way to our
'Apart-Hotel'
And yes,
that is what this new type of
Stay's
are called.

in San Diego
 is located
in brand new apartment towers.
Ours was the shorter 6 floor building in the lower right
of this picture.

Parking was three stories under ground.
I was already missing the sweet and helpful valets
we usually meet.

We found our parking spot
and
what we hoped was the correct elevator.

Our room was on the top floor of this building
which looked out into the courtyard.

On our way up to our room
I was missing more that the valet.

I was really missing a bellman.
As a notoriously 'heavy packer'
I was beginning to realize
it would take Jeff and I
more that one trip to bring up our belongings.
Especially since there wasn't even a roll cart.

We found our room number.
Jeff used the key pad with our code.
The door opened ....
I was already preparing to be
highly disappointed ....

But I wasn't disappointed.
Quite the contrary.

The room was large
Beautifully decorated.
Complete with
a kitchen
bedroom and large bath
and
even a washer and dryer.

Our scavenger hunt
to find our room
had payed off nicely.

Our Apart-Hotel
was graciously appointed
and fully furnished.

Right down to pour over coffee
complete with chic and stylish mugs
for our morning coffee ritual.

The Lyric branding
was complete with instructions
and
a guide to the best local spots in the neighborhood.

I know the neighborhood guide was a great one
because our darling daughter lives in the neighborhood
and
truly knows all the cool places to go!

Once we did get up all our luggage
we settled in for a cocktail.

How lovely is their beautifully appointed bar!
Lucky for us
I knew enough to BYOB!
As there is no hotel bar or room service.

By bringing our own BYOB
we were able to take advantage of our chic and spacious surroundings.

One of the things that intrigued me about the
Lyric brand
is their desire to bring the flavor of the city
they are located into their rooms

From local coffee
photographic artwork of the city
books about the city culture
to curated vinyl records
for the record players.

I had music going
anytime we were in the room!
A complete experience enhancer
to be sure!

Our living room at night
with the original photographic artwork.

Love their choice of leisure reading materials!

has plenty of shared spaces
like a lovely, if small
pool area.

Indoor rooms perfect for large gatherings.

Our room even came with
branded coffee cups
perfect for taking out for our walk.

Love the Lyric branding!

is literally across the street from
San Diego's

is just one block away!
Walking there is always a favorite of ours!

The Lyric at Park 12
is located in
San Diego's newly emerging
which has been in the process of even adding
the most marvelous murals!

Knowing we had such a lovely
Apart-Hotel
to come back to at night
after a day of exploring
felt like such a travel luxury!

The Casper beds, with their Frette linens
truly made for
one of the most comfortable sleeps I have had!

Look at the size of this kitchen.
Not that we used it for more than
morning coffee.
But we would have if our stay was longer.
I should have gotten a picture of their
gorgeous dishes.

So all in all
I was pretty pleased with our
first time stay at an
Apart Hotel.

It was a good value for the price.
I really enjoyed the chic and hip styling
extra space
extremely comfortable bed.

The location was ideal.

We will definitely keep the
Apart Hotel
options on our travel radar.

I hear there is a new one in
East Village to open soon.
I think we might need to check it out!
