Romantic Desert Getaway

Jeff and I went out to
for a much needed romantic getaway.

Borrego Springs is a quiet little town
several hours south east of LA
with wide open vistas
that always speak to my soul!

Our favorite place to stay is

It's full mid century modern
but also quite on the 'rustic side'.
Definitely not the swanky, luxury properties Jeff and I usually frequent.
It's the way the property is situated
with  rooms that have walls of glass that face east
for 180 degree sunrise views
that take my breath away.

And the price per night makes it much easier
to overlook the lack of services
(like a bar and  restaurant which are open only two nights a week).

But the  room views definitely compensate
for the lack of services.

We have learned to pack our bar always.
Next time I will definitely be bringing a charming cooler as well for pool time.

I will also be   packing picnic food
as the  do rooms come with refrigerators
and
food shopping in the town is minimal.
All easy solves to take in  all the desert beauty
in the sleepy little town.

The other tip staying at The Palms At Indian Head
is requesting one of the only 5 rooms that have been redone
is sleek mid century design.

Our favorite is room one.

It's a spacious room
with a living room area and updated bathroom.

For me the desert just calls out for big dramatic pieces.
There always feels like a real freedom to dress and be
whoever I want to in the open desert.

The resort actually opened in 1947
and
was a favorite getaway for the Hollywood stars of the 1950's.
Some of which were Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Bing Crosby
and
so many more.
There was a time when Borrego Springs
was a desert competing with Palm Springs
as a glamorous LA getaway.

The Palms At Indian Head was the Old Hoberg Resort
and their
olympic sized pool was the largest in California at the time
There was also an underground bar with windows where you could see underwater into the pool.

The property even had it's own landing strip.

I think it's the romantic, glamorous past that alway
speaks to my soul in Borrego Springs.

We also did the Instagram pilgrimage out to
to visit the huge art piece by Leonard Knight

"Salvation Mountain is Leonard's tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: "God Is Love." Leonard's passion has lovingly created this brilliant "outsider art " masterpiece."

"Salvation Mountain must be seen to be fully appreciated as those who have made the journey will attest. Its 50 foot height and 150 foot breadth is made totally of local adobe clay and donated paint and is truly unique in the United States and probably the world."

We also stopped at
which always has an eerie draw foe me.
In the 60's it was an upscale recreational area
until all the fish died in the 70's
and
the area turned into a ghost town.

There is a good article about the area HERE.

My wonderful
always travels with me to the desert.
Did you know not only do these umbrellas
protect from harmful sun rays
the shade they provide
actually drop the air temperature beneath them 10 degrees!
Now that's the fashion accessories that are doing triple duty!

top - Zara,  shoes - Forever 21, hat - Lack of Color, pants - Who What Wear Collection for Target, earrings Zara

All weekend getaways must come to an end.
And I'm always much cheerier
with a fun road trip travel outfit like this one here!

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life
