Saying Goodbye

It's truly been a rough 2 and a half weeks here.
My mother died on June 8th.
We buried her five days later.
Five days after that my dad ended up in ICU.

But the good part of that is
my dad is  now back home.
And I am ever so grateful.

My mother had a beautiful funeral
full of friends, family and love.
I was able to speak a heartfelt tribute to her well lived life.
I will write more about that
when it is easier for me.

I am a very big believer in the power of
Intentional Gratitude
on any given day.
But especially the really hard ones.

And I also know during life's big storms
how  very important
it is to come up for air
and
reframe your life narrative
as graciously as possible.

The older I get
the more I know it up to us on a daily basis
to not only look for the good
but do it where we can.
Not only for the benefit of others
but for our own self preservation as well.

I am ever so grateful for the support of friends and family
these last  2 1/2 weeks.

Especially my darling daughter and youngest son.
They have both brought remarkable spouses into our family
who have also been tremendous support.

I am especially grateful
during this exceedingly difficult time
Jeff and I are closer
and
more solid than ever.
A true testament to all of the work
we have both done in rebuilding our marriage these last seven months.
If we hadn't made it such a priority
these last couple of weeks could have really undone progress.
Instead
I have been so reassured with our commitment to each other.

So many times in life
the darkest days
can help shine beautiful light.

If we take the time for intentional gratitude.

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life

  1. Tamera..I have been thinking of you these last couple of weeks. My mother passed five years ago at 92...I was 51. We had a challenging relationship for much of my adult life..but we both worked hard to repair things in the last couple years of her life..and what a blessing that was. The internet is a funny thing..strangers share intamacies and feel connected..sometimes intently. While there are huge downsides to this , I believe that bloggers who share, as you do, open paths of connection..and joy..and gratitude. Tamera I believe the Carl Sagan view of life and meaning..we are all stardust..you..me ..our moms..and how glorious that is. eleanore

  8. I'm sorry you lost your mother and then the problem with your father. It's so hard when our parents's health begins to fail. I like the term, "intentional gratitude." We all should take time, probably multiple times a day... as events happen, to express our intentional gratitude. Along with what's happening in the world and our own lives, it sometimes can seem like everything is toppling in on us, so we need to grab onto the positive things, no matter how small, and recognize how grateful we are for them. xoxo, Brenda
