Working a Radiant Orchid Kimono Into My Wardrobe

Last month I decided I wanted to challenge myself to work
a kimono
into my wardrobe
and
I was even able to find one in this years color
Radiant Orchid.
No matter the name they give it
this bold shade of pink is always one of my favorites
to add some fresh color
to my wardrobe which is made up primarily of neutral building blocks.

I first showed the kimono here
but after one particularly  intoxicating Saturday night spent on Pinterest
 I wanted to challenge myself
to style the kimono into an outfit incorporating some disparate trends I am enjoying.

One trend I am intrigued with is a
distressed boyfriend jean.
For me I love the juxtaposition of rugged and worn
mixed with my normal pieces of sporty and  glam.

I spent a couple of days
trying to find the perfect pair
with enough distressing … but not too much
because for me at my age
I just didn't want to have exposed skin showing
I like the idea of the trend
but I wanted to make sure it still was what I consider a good personal age choice.
I wanted to make the trend my own
without looking like I am praying at the alter of
desperate to be younger than my newly 55.

After trying on so many pairs … high end and low
and
even purchases made
I actually found the perfect pair in my closet!
How lucky is that!

I chose to roll the legs
so my perfect juxtaposing
pointy glam shoe showed!

The vintage Chinese wicker basket
that I found at February's Antique Market
made for  the perfect  purse.

I  always use nautical stripes as a neutral player.
For me it's adds a perfect nautical nod to everything
which I love as a part of my Southern California style.
I layered this Anthropolgie stripe over my
favorite denim shirt.

Of course I finished the outfit off with accessories.

First with one of my favorite
vintage brooch necklaces
and
it you haven't seen it yet,
I have a DIY for the necklace here.

I added turquoise howlite bracelets from my shop
and
literally topping it all off with my beloved
 Panama hat.

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life

  13. Ok, first off, you look like you were having the time of your life while taking these photo's. So who was making you so happy? I'm with you on mixing the distressed look with something more feminine. This ensemble is pricelss, something I would wear on any given day. I also love the fact that you shopped your heart out only to find the perfect pair right at home (been there done that). Lastly, the glamour kitten heels are the most versatile show I've seen in a long time. I sure hope your day was spent having as much fun as you made it out to be in your photos.

  14. Tamera, Love how you styled this with the boyfriend jeans and the stripes. Who would have thought this looked so fabulous together? Your necklace is perfect too with it. You have inspired me to try something like this. I have 2 kimonos. One from my aunt's trip to Japan and one I've had about 30 years. It seems a shame to let them languish in the closet when they could be worn and celebrated. Bravo to you Tamera for starting a new trend and a lovely idea. Have a good weekend! xx Kim

  18. Well, of course. A radiant orchid kimono. Who doesn't have one of those?
Seriously ... brilliant find, more brilliant styling! It's all great, but the hat and destroyed jeans make it all young and perfectly you!
