.... styling the 4th of July.... some of my favorites...

The 4th of July has always been a favorite family holiday at our house...
and such a fun summer event to celebrate and style.
I have gathered some of my favorite styling ideas and traditions here to share.

Styling with flags is one of my favorites...
It's quick to do... and just as quick to take down.
I add to my collection each year.... by picking up them up by the tens.

One quick trick I like to do with flags...
is decorate my mantle.
I did a DIY post about it here.
The quick basic is to use mason jars filled with dry rice...
and add 3 or more flags to each jar.
The rice will keep your flags standing tall.
Doing this in multiples...
adds the greatest impact.

When my kids were little...
making cupcakes and brownies for the block parties became a family tradition.
They each made something of their own...
to contribute to the festivities.

One of my favorite 4th craft projects was
torn paper flags with buttons for the stars.
( I still have them today).
I brought out supplies for everyone at  the block party to make one...

I then collected them....
and we used them to decorate with at the lake block party on the fourth...
Everyone got to see their flag proudly displayed...
and then to take home their flag that night.

Packing picnics for the 4th on the lake....
summer styling bliss for me.
You can see...
flags work with ease for picnics as well.

as was dressing the family for the fourth each year....

so much so...
I kept all of these holiday treasures...
even using them to decorate with some years.
Now that they are all grown...

I have only myself to dress...
and it's really not too bad...

To everything there is a season.

Wishing you all a wonderful 4th of July!

as always dear friends

I wish you love and joy
as your style your life

  5. Ok, I am now going to finish decorating, you are just the inspiration I so, so, so needed! And, that last collage, WOW, can I print that off and hang it in a gorgeous frame? It's breathtaking. I simply adore all your old picutres you shared as well as the memories. I, too, love this holiday. For many, many years it was spent at the baseball field (which I so miss) but now we all gather around the pool and BBQ so its all good. Have a wonderful day!

  8. Oh do I love this post, the glorious photos, all that great red, white, and blue! You look so gorgeous in that outfit and I'm dying over that necklace! Who made it? My 4th of July tradition is a blueberry pie from scratch, which I'm actually making today, and of course getting the kiddies out to see fireworks in NYC! Thanks for an inspiring post. Also, thank you for joining Adrienne and me for "How I Wear My: Sunglasses". You were wearing ANOTHER amazing necklace and I liked your shades too. XO, Jill

  13. OMG TAMERA!

I thank you for coming to visit my blog. I am currently out of state, visiting family with limited computer time, but I see that you visited me via STYLEMINDEDCHIC. Your pics are fantastic, your story wonderful, and I agree that as life changes for us, we have to keep ourselves engaged in the community AND WITHIN OURSELVES.

Let me ask you this. Heather at SMC is part of a Pinboard on Pinterest that I created for us more "mature" women who are growing up with time....and are BEAUTIFUL AND STYLISH! May I PIN one of your wonderful photos of YOU?

The pinboard is for women 50+ and I don't know if you are in the age range, but let me know if you would like to be on my pinboard.

I will not be at my computer as long as I usually am, but I will be back by next Tuesday. Have a great fourth! Anita

  17. I especially enjoyed the family pics. I have many, many pictures too, and sometimes they're hard to look at because of their poignancy. Seeing yours, and knowing how you feel, makes the passage of time seem a little gentler, knowing how universal all these emotions are. So we dress up for joy, create beauty just because, and love as best we can with all our hearts. XXOO
