“Spacer"/

~ my studio uniform ... and the power of accessories ~

As I make my way back into a career...
I am spending more and more of my days in my studio...

So I am in the process of adopting some 'studio uniforms'...

quick go to outfits that require no 'pre thought'...
but that I can still feel pulled together...  like the creative professional I am.

I need 'uniform's that are  functional for the studio...
but can be easily 'upgraded' to still feel polished designer
when I am out and about...

To accomplish these dual needs
from one outfit...
I have adopted  'uniforms' consisting of

~ my beloved white jeans plus a tunic of some sort...
creating a wardrobe base that is functional at work...
but can quickly be transformed
 with
 the power
of well chosen accessories...

Todays tunic is from Antrhopoligie
(sold as a dress)
but for my functional and age needs...
I have layered it over my favorite denim shirt..
and added my white jeans...
making for an
exceedingly functional work outfit....

to which  in a flash...
I can add my love of accessories...
and leave the house
 as  stylish designer...

all because of the transformative power of
accessories...
... by the simple addition of

~ a scarf
~ a straw bag (mine is from Africa, via the antique market)
~ sunglasses (usually I opt for the sans makeup schedule)
~ a great shoe (I always have a heel and a flat in mind
for each 'Uniform')
~ a jacket (weather permitting)
and
of course perhaps some custom statement  jewelry....

.... my white pump search took me from high end to low brow....

in search of the perfect WEARABLE pump....

from Neiman's all the way down the shoe food  chain to....
of all places...
payless...
I found shoes that can actually withstand some hours...
and all for a tiny song of a price.

.... oh and the huge
 transformative powers of
a statement necklace!
learn how to make your own at my DIY post here.

as always my dear friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life

  10. I am just imagining you as a child. Did you have an absolute field day in just about any closet you could visit?? You should write an article about how the seeds of fashion design came about. As I have said, I am not terribly fashionable...but I'm aware of what looks good on my figure. However, when I go out to photograph (festival, art walk, etc) I can't find anything fun to wear that will stand up to tons of walking, bending, crouching, etc. Tamera, I believe I am having a bonafide fashion dilemma. I ended up wearing a workout outfit so I could zip from place to place, crouch down with worrying about gaping tops/pants, but I felt so "blah" looking at the festival goers in their cute sundresses and fun hats! I, too, need a working wardrobe.

    1. Sarah your first sentence made me chuckle, as I have always loved a good closet! When I was little I did like to go in mine, and shut the door...still do... but that's a whole different story :)

Yes, my dear, as the immensely talented creative and photographer you are, you do need a working wardrobe that reflects such... especially out shooting. I have even found when I 'dress' for working in my studio, I am able to bring more intention to my work. I wish you lived nearby, for I would enjoy nothing more than exploring a creative 'working uniform' with you! May i suggest perhaps a tunic over jeans, that would allow for the crouching. Last summer I did personally wander into the territory of an updated version of overalls, sounds bad, but this version was updated. They worked perfectly for my many forays at the antique markets ect. Pairing wither with a couple of well chosen and personal accessories... and you will end up to be a subject as well as a photographer.

Please let me know if I can offer advice in any way. I marvel at your artistry in the kitchen and it's sublime presentation as well as your spectacular photograph ... I would be honored to offer any help in an arena that I do know!

  26. Tamera, you are always blessing me with Ah Ha moments. I mess about with paints, and fabric, and beads, and get great pleasure in doing so. I just realized that my better moments in my studio {dining room}, seem to be when I have dressed with care and attention. An ensemble that is practical, yes! But that does not have to mean sweats and a t-shirt. And to have 'going out' accessories at the ready is brilliant. I love exactly what you are wearing in these photos. Thank you dear Tamera.

  28. Hi Tamera! You - Inspire - Me! I love your style and hope you do not mind that I (as many others too, I'm sure) attempt to imitate your beautiful, classy style. I too, am a "woman of a certain age", but am loving every minute, every new line & wrinkle as a badge of honor for 51 years of learning and growing. Loved all the photos in this post (as I love all of your posts) - - one question, if you do not mind sharing - - what lipstick/color are you wearing in this post? It's such a lovely shade on you.
