It must be me harkening back to simple summers, but I am a sucker for a
tree house!
We built a deck above the kids, (what was once their playhouse,
and since has had many incarnations to fit our needs).
I love this deck, which was actually my son Hunter's idea.
It has the feeling of a tree house.
It has the feeling of a tree house.
It is such an open and easy area to transform in the summer.
Now that my kids are older and off,
I get free reign!
This summer I gathered some inspirational items
and I was off
to style
a new space!
A new rug from target to anchor the 'room'.
My rectangular umbrella from Pottery Barn.
The 'couch' is made from an air mattress, two body pillows, and draped with a king quilt.
The fuchia felt pillow from Target adds a bold accent in the blue and white palette.
Always exciting, a few new pieces to flush out my design concept.
Pulling all of the pieces together to make a fabulous summer retreat.
The view from 'the tree house' is one of my favorite parts of my little escape.
Lemons in the bird cage, love! Also I have found that lemons and limes outside in the warmer months, just don't have the longevity that the oranges do in the winter. So I have compromised my doctrine of only natural, and am using faux, yes, faux lemons this summer.
I have draped my collection of quilts over the sides of the deck. Not only does this add a graphic element and intimacy to the space, but they can easily be pulled down for chilly evening snuggling.
A few accent tables and accessories round out my grown up treehouse!
I have folding beach chairs that I got years ago at my beloved Pottery Barn, I simply recovered them with new "California" tea towels.
I just love the retro feel of these towels that I found in Laguna, they make the cutest chair covers ever!
Since my darling daughter Ellis now goes to school in San Luis Obispo, I especially love the California map,
It makes me realize, she isn't really so far away!
Love the modern oriental vibe in the pillows.
Target's new summer pillows worked in perfectly.
When I saw this tiffin at Target this season, I just had to make a place for it. Thinking back, this really was the inspiration for the whole deck. You know, when you just have to make the perfect spot for something new!
Wishing you love and joy
as you style your life!
