Crowning Myself … and Claiming My Age

I  realized
only a few days ago
I will be 56 in less than two months.

Which means
since I always age myself up
to get used to the idea ...

I will be soon enough saying adieu to my 50's
and
will be well on my way to my 60's …

and
you know what ...

I couldn't be more excited!

I think this is the most marvelous time to be aging …
ever!

Because
things are  changing
about growing older.

There is an undercurrent
of
interest and acceptance
and
it is being led  sometimes by the young
and
sometimes
by fabulous women
of a certain age.

I couldn't be more excited about
being
"a certain age".

I have become an educated member of society
raised a wonderful family

and
now this age
affords me an opportunity
to
create
to thrive
and
hopefully
inspire others to ...

Crown
and
celebrate themselves
just as they are
no matter
young
or
old
rich or poor

It is always up to us
to truly
crown ourselves!

As always my friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life

  1. I like the way you think and wish I could think the same way. I will be 60 later this year and I'm not looking forward to it.

    1. Kim, I think it just takes committing to the idea. I am surprised you are not looking forward to it … you are beautiful, talented and with such a successful blog! Give yourself time … crowning ourselves … is always a process! xo

  2. I'll be eligible for Medicare in March and I can honestly say I've never looked and felt better in my life! Always owning up to my age and my ethnicity...big Indian nose and all...it took me awhile to finally owning up to my body type. With daily gym weight workouts, I finally figured it out. And YOU, Tamera, have helped me immensely...giving me the courage to dress with elan and panache!

    1. Aww Catherine, thank you ever so much my dear … if I have helped you in any way … no better compliment to me … than to inspire others to see their own magnificence! Bravo to you for embracing and crowning yourself! Your words and personal actions are inspiring indeed! I think the more we all give ourselves permission to celebrate our own selves … the more we inspire others to do the same! Your zest for life … indeed inspires me! xo!

  4. I love your thoughts about aging...why not be a mentor to younger women?
Sharing our wisdom is one of the benefits to growing older. I will be 60 this March and I am wondering how I got to be here when I still can recall my teen years so vividly as if they were just yesterday !
The crowns make me think you might have a coronation themed party on your birthday...your daughter looked lovely wearing hers.

    1. I absolutely agree … it is up to us to mentor those behind us … if even to show … aging is nothing to fear. Like every phase of life … there are always things to celebrate!

It is odd though … to be older … and still be so in touch with our younger selves. Sometimes I miss being 18 … and knowing everything. Certainly a simpler time :)) xo

  5. Well said, Tamera. I am much further along the 'certain age' route, but intend to remain 'certain age' quite indefinitely. Attitudes are changing, and I can do without being called 'elderly' ...
Love love love your crown, and your dark brown outfit. Splendid!

    1. Yes, I agree … "certain age" … has much more aplomb … while elderly sounds so dismissive. I think we must all do our part to demystify the aging process… and show those behind us … there are always seasons to look forward to!

Thank you my deer for your kind words regarding my crown and outfit! xo

  8. To age is a blessing, not a curse,to be celebrated not endured. Turning 60 was for me quite liberating ,no longer concerned about what others thought of the way I dressed or acted, a time to discover me, still a work in progress.I think with each year we can be more open to new ideas. You dear Tamera, are an inspiration, to young and not so young, wear your beautiful crown with pride!

  9. Lovely sentiments! I believe that to age gracefully, you need to acknowledge your accomplishments and be excited for your future. This week, I celebrated my birthday and I couldn't be more excited to move further into my mid-40's. I don't know if you've felt this, but I feel as though I am experiencing a transformation towards who I am authentically.

    1. "Experiencing a transformation towards who I am authentically" … I absolutely am as well! I feel like I am dropping by the wayside … ideas, falsehoods and habits … that no longer suit me. All the while and developing the courage to be me and to succeed at doing so! xo

Thank you for sharing your beautiful description my dear! xo

  10. Tamera, I think you will indeed LOVE Diner en Blanc and be the best-dressed gal there! I'm sure you can find someone in your area who has been to it--it's invitation-only so you will have to check around on that. I don't remember how I found out about it, and I will never likely go because my hubs and I don't like crowds and prefer smaller encounters of all kinds, but I do LOVE the concept of it, the spirit of it, and loved watching the videos! We just did our own little at-home version, (on my blog), which you could easily do too, and you would have a lovely event to pull that off in your pretty SoCal back yard! My webmaster who went to the Rodeo Drive one told me she is going to have a white hat-making party prior to going next time and you'd be great at that too with your creativity! Blessings for a beautiful and upcoming Diner en Blanc!

  11. If somebody look like you at that age....compliment...and if you understand the way of life (and I suppose you do) you need not afraid of
ageing. It has a lot of advantages (at least for me) provided that we are physical and mental healthy, which is not in our force. But the most important is, you are happy with yourself. You know, age is just a number...In that saying "happy ageing"

  15. Tamera, this is wonderful!! I've felt good about aging since I discovered Advanced Style a few years back and then this blogging makes it even better. Then, when I went to go volunteer with Seniors in my community I grew even more thrilled. The friends I've made in their 70's and 80's are courageous, bold, gutsy, authentic and NOT afraid to be themselves. How freeing is that?? If that's what aging can bring I'm all for it!

  17. I turn 60 in March and am going to celebrate with a shopping spree in Tokyo!! There is a delicious freedom to getting older. Is it because we truly get wiser? Don't know. Don't care. Just enjoying my One Day at a Time. Thank you for writing about it with such elegance and style. (Oh, yes, I intend to crown myself with Cherry Blossoms!)
