.... summer prep ....

We know it's almost summer here  at our house when we celebrate Hunter's birthday.
I have had so much fun with this tape from Oh Hello Friend
I first showed it here.
To celebrate a birthday breakfast...
I made this little banner out of masking tape and skewers...
adding in a second layer with a message.
I ended up using it in a cupcake and later in a little flower arrangement...
the possibilities with this tape are endless.
(  Without this tape the same idea could be accomplished stamping a phrase...
or even cutting out printed words).

Since I have decided to slow down my life...
I realized that cooking for the family  dinner was something I have never really done...
 on a regular basis.
When the kids were younger and we homeschooled
I was always A+ with breakfast and lunches....
but pretty done with the idea by dinner time ...when my husband stepped in to take over.

Now with more time....
I have been cooking regularly for the last few weeks....
I realized good home cooked meals were a missing element...
in styling our family life...
So I have been all about learning some new tricks...
I have to say... with ample time...
I have found cooking can even be a creative pursuit...
but it is the very appreciative audience that fills my heart :)

As June moves in...
I have exchanged my pink floral accents in my blue and white color scheme...
 to fresh white florals...
in summer anticipation.
I am always so happy with using blue and white as a summer base...
it is fresh...
and transitions so well throughout the spring summer months....

May accents are pink florals in celebrations of things feminine
in the month of Mother's day.

Before Hunter's birthday at the end.... with June around the corner...
I love switching to whites for the promise of an upcoming summer.

July can find me adding in some bright yellows...
to handle the addition of red accents and a prolific use of flags...
to celebrate the 4th!!

August turns to orange flowers and accents...
which are always the perfect color choice for falls transition...
and seasonal accessory switch out.

One of the many gifts of living in a little house...
the ability to change a few small elements...
for a big visual punch.

I also have found joy in collections of 'found' centerpieces...
which can also change with the months...

pieces I collect during the summers...
are given artistic life...
and bring such soul to a room.
I can easily switch out flowers or finds
to carry through my accents of the time.

Slowing down in my little house....
has me appreciating the beauty and promise of the coming summer...
I am ready to savor and enjoy.

As always dear friends

I wish you love and joy
as you style your life...
no matter what your season.

  7. You have such wonderful style, Tamera. I used to want to decorate with the seasons, but for so many reasons I haven't. Now I am trying to just decorate at all. Looking at your pictures inspires me. And I appreciate your thoughts about the seasons of your life, too. I love that you are embracing your season. xo, ab

  12. You have as fine an eye for interior design as you do for personal style, Tamera, and as always your photos are stunning.
Good to hear you are enjoying cooking... I cannot manage any enthusiasm for it, and do it with a bored and heavy heart! Perhaps I need to buy some new cook books from charity shops to inspire me and shake me out of my dull routine of the same old same old. Thank YOU for the inspiration! xxx

  14. I love your summer whites and blues! My mom is a lover of those colors, and she is one of my favorite people! How do you organize and store your seasonal decor? Would you consider doing a post on that? I am bad at organization and need every tip I can get! :)
